532Operator code (5XX): The national part of a Turkish mobile number is always 10 digits and always starts with 5 — the first three digits, 5XX, are the operator code, the equivalent of a prefix elsewhere. Written nationally as 0532…; that leading 0 is the trunk prefix and is dropped when dialling from abroad.
1234567Remaining 7 digits: The subscriber number. Because porting is free in Turkey, 5XX only tells you who first issued the number, not which operator the SIM is on now.

Number portability applies — a prefix only shows the original carrier. Porting is available and free to the subscriber — that is set by the regulator BTK, not an operator promotion. The legal maximum is 4 days; BTK later cut the time operators have to pass a porting request between themselves from 2 days to 1, and the time to verify a request likewise from 2 days to 1, and it removed the 3-month waiting period that used to apply to fixed lines. If a number is ported without the subscriber asking, because of something the operator did, the operator covers any early-termination or billing charges the subscriber was made to pay. So Turkish prefixes likewise only show who originally issued a number. This site does not publish a "which prefix belongs to which operator" table for Turkey: the public sources we could verify only cover one of the three operators, and a half-complete table would mislead more than no table at all.

SIM cards & keeping a number

In Turkey the phone matters as much as the SIM. Per the regulator BTK, a phone brought from abroad can be used unregistered for up to 120 days, after which it’s blocked from cellular networks (Wi-Fi still works); tourists leaving within 120 days don’t need to register. Longer use requires IMEI registration on e-Devlet plus a fee of roughly ₺54,000–57,000 in 2026 (media figures vary between ₺54,258 and ₺57,241 — check the payment page). The earlier “₺3,000–4,000” figure was wrong and has been corrected. Travel eSIMs roam and aren’t affected.

Foreigners: Turkcell says prepaid lines (Hazır Kart) are opened in store with a valid passport or similar ID. According to a law firm’s reading of Law No. 7571 (December 2025), operators must verify foreigners’ identity and biometrics against immigration records, and lines are closed once the visa or residence permit expires — so they aren’t suited to long-term keeping for visitors.

Keeping the number: Turkcell FAQ: a single top-up (or transfer received) of ₺200 or more keeps the line fully active for 185 days. Without another one, a 180-day “semi-active period” starts: incoming calls only — no calls, SMS or data even with credit. If still not topped up by the end, the number is cancelled. Foreigners’ lines are also limited by visa or residence validity (see above)
